The US group Ford and the German multinational Volkswagen have formalized their new partnership based on a strategy focused on electric cars and autonomous. An alliance in which everyone will find his account.
All the planets seemed aligned so that Ford and Volkswagen forged even closer ties. And in view of the many rumors observed in recent months, the place of doubt had no place to be. By mid-June, the firm from Germany had moved away from Aurora, a start-up specializing in autonomous driving, to get closer to its competitor Argo, a Ford entity.
Exchange of good procedures
In early July, the German company was speculated about a new alliance with Ford, which would result in the sharing of its electrical platform. It is now official thanks to an official press release published on the Volkswagen website. With this new agreement, the pair will help each other in two areas in particular: electric cars and standalone solutions.
" The two companies want to increase their competitiveness, to better adapt their products to the needs of customers around the world while increasing the efficiency of their capital, " says the document. To do this, the US giant will indeed use the platform (SEM) of its counterpart for design zero-emission vehicles, which will enable it to market its first model by 2023.
On the road to autonomous driving
In return, Volkswagen intends to acquire a number of shares of Argo, with the aim of boosting its projects relating to autonomous driving in Europe and the United States. But know that the young growth, although the partner of these two clients for the least prestigious, will work with them in a completely independent way. No question of mixing projects.
