Toyota: 50% of vehicles sold in the first half were hybrid-electric

Toyota has sold more than 300,000 hybrid cars for the first half of the year in Europe alone. A real success.

Boosted by its new features, the Toyota Group recorded an excellent first half of 2019 in terms of sales, with 578,400 vehicles sold in Europe and a sharp increase of 3.3% over one year. The firm reports a market share of 5.3% on the continent. But the excellent news of this half-year review lies in the scores displayed by the group's hybrid-electric models, whose sales rose by 18% compared to the first half of 2018.

A strong push in Europe

In the first six months of the year, Toyota Motor Europe (TME), the manufacturer's European division, announced the sale of 303,400 hybrid vehicles, a very high proportion for Western Europe (62%). With 70,300 registrations, the Toyota C-HR Hybrid represents the manufacturer's best selling on the European market. The Yaris Hybrid (66,400), Corolla 5-door and Touring Sports (57,700) also met with success.

The subsidiary of the Japanese group, Lexus, is also doing well with a share of 28,000 hybrid vehicles sold out of the 40,450 sold by the brand in the first half. The NX Hybrid models (8,700 sold), UX Hybrid (7,800) and RX Hybrid (3,800) attracted public support.

"  As these performances will continue in the second half of the year, this year we should exceed our total target of 1,065,000 vehicles of both brands, with hybrid order books being full,  " said Matt Harrison, Executive Vice President of TME.
