After the E3 in June, Gamescom 2019 is the next best-in-class video game show. The German convention returns in August with its 11 th edition and it could find its global reach through conferences that will inevitably reserve some surprises. We will, therefore, take stock of the program of the event.
It is the Cologne exhibition center (or Koelnmesse) that will host GamesCom 2019 August 21 to 24. For the press, the show will open its doors on August 20th. As every year, the largest publishers will open their booth to 370,000 visitors who should hurry on the convention. Gamescom is the largest video gaming exhibition in the world in terms of both surface area and affluence.
If you decide to go to Cologne, do not hesitate to consult the ticket office at this address. One day will cost 19,50 € (16,50 € for pre-order), the reduced price is 12 € (10 € for pre-order), the evening ticket only valid between 16h and 20h is 7 € and admission is free for children from 4 to 6 years old. During the week, the show will be open from 10h to 20h and the weekend from 9h to 20h.
Alas, not everyone will be able to go there, but players will be able to follow the highlights of this Gamescom 2019 in front of their computer. Indeed, for the first time since 2015, a conference will be broadcast live and ads should rain.
Microsoft Announcements at Gamescom 2019
- Inside Xbox - August 19th at 5pm
Like the E3 2019, Microsoft will put the package for Gamescom 2019. In his program, the American manufacturer has announced several animations throughout the week. From August 19 at 17h, Paris time, an unpublished episode of Inside Xbox will be broadcast. In a statement, Xbox said there will be news compared to E3 and it will not be a simple repetition. Thus, the Xbox Game Pass should occupy a central place, as the Project xCloud and exclusives like Gears 5. Alas, the Xbox Scarlett will probably remain in the boxes.
- Xbox Open Doors - August 21 to 23
On these two days, Microsoft will give on-site players free access to community events, tournaments, and other developer conferences. This experience will take place at Gloria Theater and visitors will not need to buy a ticket to access it.
Finally, Microsoft will provide about 200 gaming terminals on its booth at Gamescom 2019. Titles like Gears 5, Battletoads, Borderlands 3, Bleeding Edge or Minecraft: Dungeons will be present. The full line-up is available at this address.
Gamescom: Opening Night Live
- Conference - August 19th at 8pm
The event will be presented by Geoff Keighley, producer and presenter of the famous Game Awards. In front of a crowd of 1000 fans invited for the occasion, Keighley will make announcements on several games developed by independent studios and big blockbusters will also be present. Since this is the first edition of this opening ceremony, we can expect some beautiful presentations.
For the moment, it is very difficult to make assumptions about the games that will appear on the menu of this evening. However, Geoff Keighley has many contacts in the video game industry. For example, he is a good friend to a certain Hideo Kojima. A new trailer for Death Stranding is not to be excluded since the game will land on November 8. Also, European studios could enjoy playing "at home" to focus on their games. We think of Cyberpunk 2077 or The Last Campfire, the new production of Hello Games ( No Man's Sky ).
The possibilities are many but we imagine bad ads shattering. For example, it is almost certain that PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will not show up. Let's hope for surprises to give Gamescom its former splendor.
And the other publishers?
Gamescom attracts every edition of the best studios in the world. This year will not be different since a multitude of stands will occupy the Koelnmesse. Nintendo, Bethesda Softworks, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Focus Home Interactive, Konami, 505 Games or Capcom will be there. Most of these publishers will simply make their games available to visitors and organize some animations. For now, Nintendo has not announced anything about a hypothetical Direct.
Let's finish with some lines on Sony Interactive Entertainment. The much-missed outsider of E3 2019 will be at Gamescom in August. However, we do not yet know what will be the device on the spot or even the games that will be playable. Death Stranding could offer a demo, the remastering of MediEvil is also expected and since Activision will not have a booth, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could well show up at Sony. At present, the Japanese brand has not said anything about a press conference. A new State of Play is not excluded, especially that the manufacturer should reveal the release date of The Last of Us Part II before the end of the year.
Cyberpunk 2077
He will undoubtedly be the star of this Gamescom 2019. During the German show, CD Projekt RED will play at Cyberpunk 2077 on its booth and visitors will be able to admire this demo from August 21st to 24th. The press will be entitled to a private presentation behind-closed-doors from August 20th to the 22nd. Finally, a cosplay contest will also be organized during this week. The winner will leave with $ 2,000 and goodies. He or she will be qualified for the Grand Final that will take place later. The amount involved will be $ 30,000. A beautiful jackpot!
