When Amazon and Google bury the hatchet, users can shout the victory. Indeed, the two US giants have just announced the arrival of their respective flagship services on the platforms of the opposing side.
The Fire TV and Chromecast devices are therefore affected by this significant change made by the two companies.
YouTube is back at Amazon!
First the good news, YouTube finally signs its return on a large number of devices stamped Fire TV, today. As mentioned by The Verge, it had been almost a year and a half since the application was removed. It is now available on Fire TV Stick (second generation), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Basic Edition and smart TV brand Toshiba, Insignia, Element and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition.
Amazon also promises that the app will arrive on other Fire TV products in the near future. This version of youtube is also Alexa-friendly, allowing users to quickly find the content they are looking for with voice commands. YouTube Kids will also be compatible very soon, as will the live YouTube TV service, which will be released later in 2019.
Counters are reset to zero
In the other direction, Amazon Prime Video's iOS and Android apps now work on Chromecast devices including TVs. The user can stream content from these applications to a TV. The icing on the cake, the Prime Video application benefits from a wider deployment on Android TV. It can be downloaded right away on all new compatible devices.
In short, all is well that ends well between Amazon and Google who finally go hand in hand. Conflicts are now a thing of the past and this partnership could be even stronger in the coming months. I hope it lasts!
