Logistics employees request a requalification of interim contracts

The date of July 15 was not chosen at random. As Amazon launches its Prime Days, two days of exclusive promotions for Amazon Prime subscribers, employees at a warehouse in Shakopee, Minnesota, will hold a six-hour strike to demand lower quotas and higher worker conversion temporary employees.

This is not the first time that Amazon employees have been demonstrating to demand an improvement in their working conditions, but they have never used one of the most commercially active days to put pressure on their management.

Amazon is regularly accused of being too demanding with her staff. At the instigation of MP and former White House candidate Bernie Sanders, the company raised the minimum wage to $ 15 an hour but this measure is far from having satisfied the staff representatives.

Strikers could also be victims of reprisals. Some employees lodged a complaint with the National Labor Relations Commission, explaining that Integrity Staffing Solutions, the provider responsible for recruiting employees working in Amazon's logistics centers, had sanctioned striking employees at the time. dismissing one of the movement's organizers or deducting strike time from their quarterly leave allowance.

The online sales group reacted on its side in a statement. Rather than encouraging a dialogue, one of the spokespersons of the company explains that employees have no reason to complain and that working conditions are much better than in many companies equivalent to the United States. United.

"  We encourage everyone to compare our salary, benefits, and workplace to those of other major retailers and employers in Shakopee or elsewhere in the country - and we invite everyone to see for themselves- same by visiting our facilities,  "concludes the representative of Amazon.
