Škoda plans two models Octavia rechargeable hybrids

Like other manufacturers, Škoda continues to complete its range of electric and hybrid vehicles. After the electric VISION iV, presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the Czech designer unveiled, in a statement, the fourth generation of his Octavia.

It must have a host of engines including light hybridization and hybrid plug-in. A version running on natural gas is also announced.

A more compact compact

The release of Skoda is particularly generous in technical specifications. We learn that the Octavia, which was already one of the largest in the compact segment, has grown. In its break version, it has gained 22 mm long and 15 mm wide. The Octavia Hybrid will measure 4,689 meters long and 1,829 meters wide.

This relative expansion is felt inside, the trunk of the COMBI version reaching 640 liters, 30 liters more than the previous generation. But if the builder says to have entirely modified the interior, no official photo of it has been communicated. These are unofficial photos which nevertheless give an idea of what this space-saving could represent, estimated, in particular, at 78 mm at the knees for the passengers installed at the rear.

The release of the brand also evokes two 10-inch screens, a head-up display (a first for the manufacturer) and an electric parking brake. Outside, Škoda mentions the existence of LED matrix headlights. The manufacturer promises "  one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world  ", with a drag coefficient of 0.24 on the compact and 0.26 on the station wagon. The compact version would then have aerodynamics comparable to that of the fourth generation of Toyota Prius, and models S and X of Tesla.

The full of engines

To this information, all that is missing is motorization. Light hybrid models ("  mild hybrid  ") could receive a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI 110 hp or a four-cylinder 1.5 TSI 150 hp. They could be paired with a fuel-efficient 48-volt battery and should have either a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Škoda presents this hybrid plug-in version as a direct result of the Superb iV, whose price list was unveiled a month agoBoth 204 and 245 hp versions will be based on a 1.4 TSI petrol engine and will be equipped with a six-speed gearbox. The manufacturer finally reports the presence of three diesel engines (115 hp, 150 hp, and 200 hp) and a 1.5 TSI G-TEC running on natural gas and delivering 130 hp.

No indication of performance has been reported for these engines. Perhaps they will be announced at the premiere of the Octavia 4, scheduled for November 11, 2019.
