Samsung's special selfies satellite has left its orbit and crashed in the United States

Funny surprise for Nancy Mumby-Welke, in Gratiot County, Michigan, who suddenly heard a violent shock outside her home. The culprit: an object seeming to have fallen from the sky, and bearing the logo of Samsung.

The device is a "special selfies" satellite, a kind of space balloon, used for a Samsung advertising campaign. SpaceSelfie offered users to send an image to see it appear on the screen of a Galaxy S10 5G, suspended on the machine in the stratosphere.

A "planned" descent

According to Samsung's statements on the American channel NBC News, this descent was "  planned  ", and everything came together as part of a " soft landing"   in a "  selected rural area  ". The American family has confirmed that no animals have been touched and that the house is intact.

Michael Morris, the local county sheriff, announced that a white balloon was also found intermingled in trees. Electricity in the area was cut off until the balloon and gear were untangled from trees and electrical wires. Raven Aerostar is responsible for the manufacture of the device used by Samsung.

An unprecedented advertising campaign

Anxious to push back certain current technological limits, Samsung had launched earlier in the year in the SpaceSelfie campaign. Achieving the impossible is the ambition of the Korean firm, which aspired at the same time to accomplish a great tour de force by extolling the photographic qualities and resistance of its latest smartphones.

The ad campaign featured actress and model Cara Delevingne. And the idea of the Korean brand was appealing: by sending a selfie, you could be selected to see it appear in full stratosphere, with the planetary in the background. What to make beautiful wallpapers ...
