Photoshop for iPad is now available and Illustrator is coming soon

Adobe continues to feed us live announcements from its MAX conference. Yesterday, the publisher formalized the release of Photoshop on iPad, as well as the upcoming arrival of Illustrator on the digital slate of Apple.

Introduced by Apple at the release of the iPad Pro 2018 a year ago, Photoshop is now available on tablets through Adobe's Creative Cloud subscription.

A version of Photoshop not quite complete

Already technically usable on iPad thanks to the Sidecar technology inaugurated with macOS Catalina, Photoshop now has its own version of the Apple tablet.

But despite what could have been announced a year ago, it is not a complete version and perfectly identical to Photoshop on computers. Although it is possible to create and edit an in-depth iPad.PSD file, many tools are missing, such as the rotation of work areas, the selection of subjects or the improvement of outlines.

It is also the issue of the tariff that may scald the most enthusiastic. If the current "Photo" formula, offered at € 11.99 per month, allows access to Lightroom and Photoshop on computer and mobile, the present iPad version of the software is included only in case of the subscription until January 31, 2020. To believe the booklet of Adobe, it will take - if you miss the mark - you offer the Photoshop formula to € 23.99 per month.

Adobe to conquer the iPad

Visibly satisfied with their common understanding, Adobe renews its partnership with Apple to develop an iPad Pro version of Illustrator.

But unlike what Adobe tries to do with Photoshop for iPad, Illustrator should not be content to use all or some of the functionality of the desktop version. The editor's note of intent, published on his blog, says he wants to "  reimagine the Illustrator experience from the ground up to take advantage of the unique benefits and capabilities that the tablet has to offer in terms of touch and via the Apple Pencil.


And the publisher reminds us that it is only at a preliminary stage in terms of development. Contrary to Bloomberg's prediction, Adobe prefers not to release a release date for its new tablet app.
