The Sims are not really coming to Switch

The Sims are not really coming to Switch

While their casual appearance would be particularly good for the Nintendo Hybrid console, The Sims should not arrive on Switch soon. Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, in any case, sweeps the idea away.

During a shareholders' meeting chaired by Andrew Wilson last week, the boss was questioned about the lack of porting of the Sims on the Nintendo Switch. According to him, the players already have the Sims on another console and have to make a new adaptation.

The Sims sulk the Switch

"  Every time we evaluate the portability on a platform, we focus on two things in particular,  " says Andrew Wilson to his interlocutor. "  The first: does the game match the profile of the platform in terms of controls or community ecosystem? The second: do we think that the community present on this platform would like our game to be there too? Or would she prefer to play elsewhere?  ".

Almost rhetorical questions, which, according to Andrew Wilson, are also based on concrete figures. According to internal data, the boss of Electronic Artsknows that most Switch owners also own a PlayStation 4, an Xbox One or a PC. Platforms where The Sims 4 are already available.

Wilson's reasoning is, therefore: would a player buy The Sims 4 on Switch while he can play on PS4, Xbox One or PC? "  No  ", seems to think the entrepreneur, who must probably take the last  FIFA as an example on this point. Indeed if EA is not completely absent from the Switch catalog, it currently limits its presence to its football simulations and Fe, an "independent" game that has not really met the expected success.

Electronic Arts and Nintendo: I love you, me neither

The relationship is complex between Electronic Arts and Nintendo. Especially since the commercial failure of the Wii U, on which the American publisher had put a lot of money.

In 2011, tells Game Informer, John Riccitiello, the CEO of the time, even mounted on the stage of the Nintendo booth at E3 to announce a major partnership between the two companies. In the firmament with its 100 million Wii sold, Nintendo did not expect such a desert crossing in the following years.

Also, Electronic Arts were quick to remove his marbles and scratch for a time any opportunity to redistribute his games on a Nintendo console. A wound still visibly gaping at the publisher, since despite these Switch's phenomenal success, Electronic Arts still does not seem determined to bet on it with its flagship licenses.
