At Amazon, the GAFA tax will be carried over to sellers

A 3% price increase will be applied by Amazon on the sellers ... because of the GAFA tax.

Amazon would not be able to cover the new tax applied by the French government, the company will, therefore, pay the tax to sellers.

French sellers concerned

Now that the GAFA tax has definitely been adopted in France, Amazon has decided to pass this tax on its French sellers. The first company concerned by the tax to make this choice, the giant e-commerce will, to do this, apply a surcharge of 3% on its rates.

The commission implemented by Amazon will depend on the product sold, adding a few tenths of percentage points to some sellers, and up to 1.5 points to others.

This increase will be imposed by Amazon to its dealers of the Hexagon as of st October. This 3% corresponds to the amount of tax applied to its turnover.

Other companies could make this kind of decision, in France

Since a company has a minimum turnover of 750 million euros, globally and 25 million euros, only in France, it is subject to GAFA tax. According to the Ministry of the Economy, this concerns about thirty large groups on the territory.

If for the moment, Amazon is the only one to communicate this decision, it could be that other concerned companies increase their tariffs to fill this tax. This will obviously not be the case for Rakuten since CEO France said that no impact would occur on the tariffs applied.

And while Trump threatens to tax French wines, the ministry of the, which previously benefited the digital giants, who paid "  fourteen tax points less than other companies  ."
