Amazon has announced its second renewable energy production project in Ireland.
The e-commerce giant also took the opportunity to announce a new project in the United States, it now has 66 different renewable energy programs in the world.
The Cork project will provide 68,000 MWh per year
Amazon has announced its new renewable energy projects and one of them is in Europe. In Ireland, specifically in Cork, the deployment of a wind farm will take place. Once commissioned, this Amazon wind farm will have a capacity of 23.3 megawatts and a maximum clean energy production of 68,000-megawatt hours each year.
The wind farm is expected to be operational by 2020, and it will, therefore, produce clean energy for Amazon and several million Amazon Web Services customers.
Amazon has decided to invest in the production of renewable energies
Amazon is not one of its first projects in clean energy. The company has 66 projects around the world. 51 of them are devoted to solar roofs.
Amazon's sustainability director, Kara Hurst, says of these projects that "playing an important role in reducing human-induced sources of climate change is an important commitment for Amazon. Major investments in renewable energy are a crucial step in reducing our carbon footprint globally. We will continue to invest in these projects. "
With regard to the Irish project, the target set for 2030 is that70% of the country's electricity comes from renewable sources.
