As Netflix begins to open crisp data gates on its most popular series, Amazon Prime Video cuts short any speculation: it will not follow the same path.
Retention of data that can mean two things: either the numbers are disappointing, and unveiling them would just flee the advertisers; Amazon does not consider it relevant to reveal how many people watch which series on its platform.
A different strategy from Netflix
Jennifer Salke, director of Amazon Studios, told a panel of the Television Critics Association about the lack of usage figures on Prime Video. " Our company does not adhere to this strategy, " she says of communicating viewing figures. " I come from television ... a business where it is common to measure success to the number of viewers. We (Amazon, ed.) Recognize that this is not a strategy that suits us. We know what the numbers are
". An unequivocal answer, nevertheless measured by the fact that, according to Jennifer Salke, the issue of sharing the numbers regularly comes back on the carpet internally.
But if Amazon does not share the audience figures of its series with the press or the general public, it also does not pipe words to its creators. Albert Cheng, co-director of television at Amazon, said this by saying that his company does not share " absolute numbers " with the showrunners of his flagship series like Fleabag or Mrs. Maisel.
" We have other ways to make them understand how their shows perform ," said Albert Cheng. " We often do this after the start of a new season. We gather around a table and explain to them how the broadcast happened .
Netflix still chick in public data
Sharing Netflix content audience ratings is a recent trend for Reed Hastings' platform. Usually modest on the subject, the company proudly announced last month that Season 3 of Stranger Things had captivated no less than 40 million homes.
A few days later, rebels with the Murder Mystery movie, worn by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Netflix announced that 31 million accounts had watched its new exclusivity.
If Netflix remains the majority in France on the SVoD, Amazon has signed in 2018 a significant rise in power. The fourth last OCS and Canalplayearlier this year, the platform of the US giant are now in second place behind Netflix, and this since January.
