Epic continues to put players back
In an email sent to his backers, YS Net explains that this decision was made following the involvement of Epic during the development of this third episode. The firm has been present throughout the project since the beginning because Shenmue 3 uses the Unreal Engine 4. Thus, no backtracking is possible and the title will be released exclusively in PC on the Epic Game Store. For those who do not flee, measures have been put in place.
Several solutions to calm the game
Indeed, Epic will deal directly with the refund of players who do not want to migrate to his shop for Shenmue 3. Thus, the development budget obtained by the game will not be impacted. These people may also decide to choose another version at no additional cost. Four options are available to them: a PS4 download code, a PS4 physical copy, an Epic Game Store code or a physical Epic Game Store version (in the form of a box with a download code inside).
Users who want to play Steam must be patient because the temporary exclusivity will last one year. A form will soon be sent to backers with the possibility for those who requested a PC version to check a box to receive a Steam key from November 2020. At least, we must still recognize that the studio YS Net seeks solutions to please everyone.
The release of Shenmue 3 will take place on November 19, 2019, on PS4 and the Epic Game Store.
