Microsoft patents a multidimensional sensor system

Microsoft patents a multidimensional sensor system

The US manufacturer filed a patent last January describing a sensor to analyze in real-time the blood flow. The opportunity for Microsoft to revive in the world of health?

A recent flop in the world of well-being and health

A few months ago, Microsoft drew a line on the market of connected bracelets. Despite several versions, the manufacturer had never really supported his Microsoft Band and had preferred to throw in the towel, for lack of users.

However, a patent filed last January would suggest that, despite its setbacks, Microsoft would retry its chance in the health field with the design of a new multidimensional optical sensor.

A new sensor much more accurate than those used today by activity trackers

Microsoft has started from the observation that the sensors currently used in the various activity trackers offer partial measurements of the physical state of the user. With its technology, Microsoft could here measure and analyze the blood flow, to present the user's heart rate but also the rate of oxygenation of blood and tissue, or its arterial stiffness. The sensor would also be able to prevent it in the case of hypertension.

The sensor would incorporate LEDs that would illuminate the skin surface of carriers to obtain all this data. According to the patent, the device is resistant to movement and can operate in full sports effort without loss of precision.

Microsoft states in this patent that its technology can be both integrated with a mobile phone and a connected object. It is still too early to say if the software giant will turn its technology into a mainstream product, but Microsoft teams seem particularly attentive to this sector of connected health, increasingly popular with consumers.
