Unsurprisingly, China has already created a 6G working group

China flag

China officially announces that it has launched development work for a new mobile network: 6G. It has been declared through the Minister of Science and Technology the creation of a working group whose main objective will be to produce convincing results before the United States.

At a time when 5G has just been deployed in China and is still in its infancy in Europe, the Middle Kingdom already looks to the future and new technological horizons.

A consequent program

One of the goals of 5G is to offer 10 times faster throughput than our existing 4G networks, so it's difficult to imagine what the true ambition of the sixth generation of the mobile Internet will be. China no longer hides its goal of being a world leader, today and tomorrow. To achieve this, 37 experts from several universities, research institutes, and technology companies will coordinate their work.
This project also goes hand-in-hand with Huawei leader Ren Zhengfei, who has also announced the start of the necessary work for this new technology. Recall that China already has the largest 5G network in the world, which is gradually growing since this year. The country has planned the 130,000 5G base stations by the end of the year. This constitutes a considerable advance on the rest of the planet, and especially Europe.

In South Korea, Samsung is also working on 6G. Finland had also announced the start of a project, 6Genesis, based on an investment of 251 million euros. Finally, Donald Trump had publicly indicated how important it was for the United States to equip itself with 5G infrastructure as soon as possible while referring to 6G.

A long way to get there

The two main strengths of the 6G seem to be higher speed, up to 1 TB / s, and the use of artificial intelligence to correct some of the shortcomings of existing networks. However, it will take several years before the 6G is actually made available to users, China evoking on this subject, the 2030 horizon.

Moreover, this technological arms race seems to stem from the current geopolitical battles around the 5G. While Huawei, one of the world's leading suppliers, has been shut out of the US market for security reasons, it is almost natural for Donald Trump to want America to take the lead with 6G. No measures have yet been adopted.

In this situation, China's announcement regarding 6G infrastructure development work is hardly a surprise: the world's second-largest economy wants to become, more than ever, a stronghold of technological innovation peak.
