Augmented reality, image recognition: Mastercard unveils the future of bank payment

Mastercard, a credit card company, presented at a showcase in Belfast its new concepts for the payment of tomorrow. Between increased reality before and during the purchase, image recognition for inventory management or sound alert to confirm a payment, the company presented interesting ideas.

Faced with the simplicity of Apple Pay and the important aura of Google Pay that integrates Paypal, Mastercard out the heavy artillery to stay in the race against payment without credit card.

Mastercard unveils its prototypes in Belfast

It was during a showcase in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that the company Mastercard unveiled its new payment concepts, through some interesting prototypes. For example, Mastercard introduced software that integrates Augmented Reality so that the potential buyer can review an item before making the decision to buy it or not.

The credit card company demonstrated an interactive interface that appears on the tables, via a projector, in restaurants and bars. Through it, customers can place their order and then share the invoice. Of course, if the payment is made easier, this solution tends to eliminate the contact between the customers and the service staff, or even the jobs of the latter.

Mastercard also demonstrated Duka Connect, its system for small traders in developing countries, currently being tested in Kenya. It is an application that connects traders and wholesalers. The image recognition, integrated with a basic smartphone, is used to scan items that are then stored in a digital inventory to facilitate inventory management.

A sound alert to confirm a payment

Mastercard has unveiled at the showcase its sound alert, which will be used in sales outlets to confirm a payment via Mastercard. For good measure, this sound will be inaugurated this Thursday, July 18 in the official store of golf tournament The Open, held in Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

According to Mark Barnett, President of MasterCard in the UK and Ireland, this sound " adds a powerful dimension to our brand identity and is essential for people to recognize Mastercard today and in the future ."
