An American student discovers a skull of triceratops in North Dakota

It's a huge discovery made by a fifth-year biology student at the University of California. The latter, named Harrison Duran, mounted an archaeological expedition and fell on the fossil of a triceratops! To say a nice catch: the dinosaur is 65 million years old.

It was in the Badlands, North Dakota, where the student's discovery took place, with Professor Michael Kjelland of Mayville State University.

An archaeological dig that leads to a significant discovery

Harrison Duran was very lucky. This dinosaur-passionate student has set up an archaeological expedition on the Badlands side in North Dakota, USA. The place, known for its many fossils, was particularly generous with him since he discovered a triceratops in good condition.

It was his left horn that was the most exposed element, while the fossilized wood and the leaves around the dinosaur allowed scientists to have a better idea of the environment at the time of the dinosaur.

The triceratops has since been named Alice: a named tribute to the owner of the land. The same terrain where Michael Kjelland, who was with Harrison Duran at the time of this discovery, had also found the fossil of a dinosaur of the same species last year. The professor said all the same that to avoid thefts, the place of discoveries will remain secret.

"  I can not explain the excitement that came to me when we discovered the skull [...]. I love dinosaurs since I was a kid, so it was an event for me!  Said Harrison Duran.

The triceratops has since been transported to Fossil Excavator's laboratory

It's Fossil Excavator, a company created by Harrison and Michael Kjelland Duran, who recovered the fossil triceratops. This non-profit society is dedicated to paleontology research and invites the public to take part in its activities.

After the discovery, Alice was reinforced with glue to strengthen the bones that could have been weakened. It was then in a large box that the triceratops was placed with a memory foam (like the mattresses) before being transferred to Fossil Excavator. The student would like to expose Alice, in order to share her discovery.
