Doom: a TV series to explore the creation of the mythical FPS

Masters-of-Doom

The USA Network television channel has commissioned a pilot for a series based on the creation of the Doom franchise. It will also focus on the foundation of id Software, the video game development studio behind this mythical FPS. James and Dave Franco will be in charge of the production.

If the Masters of Doom driver is a success, it would be the first in a series of anthologies dedicated to the highlights of video game history.

Masters of Doom, first step in a series of anthologies on video games

The success of the series Halt and Catch Fire and Silicon Valley, or the film The Social Network, show the public interest in the inner workings of technology companies and video game. Information that has not gone unanswered at USA Network. The American channel has therefore ordered a pilot for a series based on Masters of Doom.

This is a book by David Kushner, released in 2003, which tells the story of the founding of the studio id Software in 1991 by programmer John Carmack and designer John Romero, but also the creation of the legendary franchise Doom, which will transform these two friends in bitter rivals. Nothing to do, therefore, with the film project DOOM: Annihilation coming out this fall.

The pilot's writing and the potential future series has been entrusted to Tom Bissell. Good news, since this author has already written for video game franchises like Uncharted and Battlefield, or on Gears of War 4. He is also a former video game tester at id Software. The production is in the hands of Ramona Films, the company of James and Dave Franco.
