A lens that zooms in on blink? You are not dreaming, researchers have invented it.
Notice to nearsighted people, astigmatism, farsightedness and other people with vision problems: lenses may soon allow you to zoom on command.
Blink twice to zoom
This invention results from the work of scientists at the University of California at San Diego. They created a contact lens that zooms in with a simple movement of the eyes: just blink twice to zoom.
They were able to develop this technology through their measurements of the electrooculographic signals perceived during eye movement. They were then able to create a flexible biomimetic target directly responding to electrical movements. Thus, depending on the signals, the lens is able to change its focal length.
Everything is not related to the sight, so that the person sees or not, the objective works: the system is activated thanks to the electricity produced by the blink.
A new tool in the medical field
According to the researchers, this invention could be used in the context of visual prostheses, but also adjustable glasses and remote-controlled robotics.
Ultimately, this could improve the vision in the medical setting, but also for the authorities, especially in the context of a survey and the search for clues.
