On the occasion of a session of questions and answers which was held yesterday on Reddit, Andrey Doronichev, product director of Google Stadia clarified several key points of the platform of cloud gaming.

Unfortunately for the most worried, the response provided by the spawn of Stadia does not really give reassurance. As a reminder, Stadia is a platform to play games without the help of a game console or a PC; all done entirely remotely by Google's servers.
But last month, by revealing its business model, Stadia confirmed that you would have to buy your games to enjoy on the platform. In other words: it will be up to you to build your own ideal toy library.
But in the event that the service was closed? What would happen to your games?
On Reddit, Andrey Doronichev admitted that he and his teams were often questioned about it. " I understand you. Going to the Cloud is terrifying, "he concedes. " I felt the same thing when the music was moving files to streaming. But I still have all my old CDs in the garage ... even though it has become complicated to find a CD player nowadays. "
No guarantee that games will remain playable in case of server shutdown
" The same thing (the transition to the cloud, ed) has happened to movies, photos, documents, and other files ... and it's great! The games are nothing different. In the end, all our games will be safe in the cloud, and we will have no fear about it, "resumes Andrey Doronichev on Reddit.

Relying on the fact that Google has invested astronomical amounts to ensure a strong network infrastructure and availability at all times of our files hosted in the cloud, the head of Stadia finally let go: " Nothing is certain in life, but we are committed to making Stadia a success. "
And Andrey Doronichev to explain that, if all the metadata of your games (including your backups) will be recoverable at any time from Stadia, the games can not be downloaded locally. In other words: if the Google platform was closed, players may well have to say goodbye to their toy library.
Note however that this problem is far from exclusive to Stadia. When you buy a game on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Store, absolutely nothing guarantees that you can continue to enjoy it indefinitely. Only Steam ensures that in case of discontinuation of its services " measures would be taken " so that players can continue to enjoy the games they have purchased.
