Presented at the end of May 2019, the Skoda Citigo e IV will join the category of mini-urban electric cars by the end of 2019. And could in the process become one of the cheapest zero-emission vehicles on the market, although its design is not likely to be unanimous.
For the first time in its history, the Czech manufacturer Skoda has passed the electrical milestone: the company passed under the bosom of the German giant Volkswagen in 1991 will indeed introduce an electrified four-wheel to its catalog of products. here the end of the year 2019. His name? The CITIGO e iV, zero declination issue, therefore, the thermal release. And a cousin of the Volkswagen E-Up, with a very similar design.
Expected at the motor show in Frankfurt, organized from 12 to 22 September, the mini-city dweller of the European manufacturer will be confined to exclusively urban use, considering its power and its autonomy. So many features that we will come back to in this article.
Exterior design: it's time for conservatism
The aesthetic codes of the CITIGO e iV are generally based on those of the thermal declination. With a length of 3,597 mm and a width of 1,645 mm, this five-door is intended to accommodate no less than four passengers on board. The press release published last May also mentions a " redesigned front bumper " and evokes a grille now full that takes the tint of the bodywork.
This city electric also sports fog lamps and LED daytime running lights in series, as well as " indicators integrated with the hulls of the exterior mirrors ". Finally, in place of the Skoda logo on the tailgate, the latter now carries the lettering "ŠKODA" in capital letters. Note a volume of the honorable chest for its size: 250 L.
Interior design: same chorus as outside
Do not expect a messy cabin: the company's teams simply redesigned the instrument cluster and dashboard. For the rest, the front cabin does not change one iota.
On the equipment side, Skoda promises power windows, Climatronics air conditioning, remote central locking, a Swing II radio and a Move & Fun smartphone docking station.
Power and autonomy: all of a city
Who says electric city, necessarily says modest performance. This does not prevent the CITIGO e iV from proposing sufficient power for the city, like its 61kW engine (83 horsepower), combined with a torque of 210 Nm. The exercise "0 to 100 km / h "is thus done in 12.5 seconds, when it takes 7.6 seconds to climb 60 to 100 km / h. Its top speed tickles the 130 km / h. We will have warned you.
Its 36.8 kWh lithium-ion battery - housed in the chassis floor, 30 centimeters high - gives it an autonomy of 265 kilometers, according to the WLTP certification cycle. By connecting the vehicle to a 40 kW fast charge (CCS cable), one hour will be enough to restore 80% of its energy, compared to 4 hours 08 with a 7.2 kW AC wall box and 12 h 37 with a terminal of home recharge.
Features and driving aids: the Move & Fun asset
Skoda relies on its Move & Fun app to offer a connected experience to its customers. They can download it and launch it on their smartphone that turns into a mini dashboard: view the vehicle data, play music and launch a navigation system are some of the features on offer.
The user can also remotely access the battery and air conditioning of the model, which benefits from the passage of a Lane Assist.
Price and availability: one of the cheapest on the market?
First of all, note that the CITIGO e iV will benefit from two trim levels: Ambition and Style. The first will be entitled to " 14-inch steel rims, associated with Indus hubcaps mounted 165/70 R14 tires ", when the second will be equipped with " 16-inch Scorpius alloy wheels with two-tone tones embellished with keys. black and tires 185/50 R16 ", is it indicated.
The colors will be on the fingers of our two hands: Candy White, Tornado Red, Sunflower Yellow, Deep Black, Crystal Blue, and Tungsten Gray.
The mass production of this city car will begin in the second half of 2019, between July and December. Not communicated, the price is still a mystery: but according to specialists in the sector, it would be around 20,000 euros, excluding an ecological bonus of 6,000 euros, one of the most affordable rates on the market.
