Starting a game on an Oculus Go headset and finishing it on the Oculus Quest is now possible thanks to the activation of Cloud Storage v2.

Oculus announces today that it has depreciated the first version of its data storage in the cloud in favor of a new version, integrating this time the so-called "mobile" headphones of the range.

Continuity of backups between different Oculus headsets

Cloud backups have been around for three years now for Oculus Rift. But because of the great disparities that exist between the jewels of the brand and the recent nomad additions to the catalog, the backups were not porous between these two distinct universes.

The Oculus Go and the very recent Oculus Quest now well adopted by users, the subsidiary of Facebook had to solve this problem as soon as possible. And activate the Cloud Storage version 2 today, allowing the sharing of backups between all the headsets of the range Oculus.

In other words, you can start part of a game on your Oculus Quest and resume it later on an Oculus Rift or Oculus Go. According to the official documentation, even the Samsung Gear VR is compatible with the new version of the storage in the Cloud.

A feature suspended at the whim of developers

But to take advantage, it will take the developers to get their hands dirty. Cloud backup will only work if developers integrate the new API into their game.

Oculus also announces that in the future (and unlike the Rift), the Store related to Go and Quest will display a small icon signifying availability backups in the cloud.

The company also seems determined to decompartmentalize the application stores of its different models. A few days ago, John Carmack announced that, by the end of the year, the Oculus Quest could emulate the applications of Oculus Go.
