Irish regulator opens Apple privacy inquiry

The Irish supervisory authority wants to know if Apple properly informs its users about the retention of their data.

In Ireland, Apple seems to cumulate investigations against him as a fan of the brand stacks the iPhone over the years. CBNC informs us that the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has opened a new investigation - the third - against the Cupertino company, concerning the protection of privacy. The regulator wants to ensure that Apple complies with the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Surveys that multiply against a background of private life

Any user is expected to be able to know which data are actually stored by the platform, application or operating system he uses and whether his consent is required by the firm that uses the data. It is this double affirmation that the gendarme of the Irish data tends to verify, by the opening of this new investigation against Apple.

Last year, the Irish commission had already launched an investigation against the American company to know how it uses the people data of its members in the context of targeted advertising. The DPC also wanted to verify that the confidentiality declaration, relating to the respect of the private life and searchable by the users, was sufficiently transparent.

Ireland, a country decided to fight against the digital giants

If Ireland pays particular attention to Apple, it is because there are its European headquarters, in Cork more precisely, in the south of the green island.

The country has also opened investigations against Twitter, Google, Microsoft, Quantcast and especially Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg's company being the most closely watched by the local regulator, with no less than eight investigations to his credit.
