Power, Sport Mode, Single Pedal Control: we know even more about the Honda e

In a new press release, the Japanese manufacturer Honda brings some details on its future flagship electric vehicle, the Honda e, expected for the year 2020.

A piece of information here, a piece of information there. Since the prototype introduction of the Honda eats the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Asian manufacturer Honda has been cautious about the characteristics of its product. Previously published press releases have never been very generous, although, over the months, the community has been able to see more clearly about it.

The ZOE 2019 and Peugeot e-208 capped at the pole

The group of the Land of the Rising Sun has also published a new official document in which are listed some new features.

Honda does not fail to recall the capacity of its battery, 35.5 kWh, which it considers, in terms of size "  as one of the most compacts in its class  " and gives it a total autonomy of 200 kilometers. Sufficient for urban journeys.

The company, however, brings new elements of response to the power of its engine: 150 horsepower (110 kW), for an impressive torque of 300 Nm. By comparison, the Peugeot e-208 has a 135 horsepower engine (100 kW) for a torque of 260 Nm, when the Renault ZOE 2019 has a motor identical to its best enemy, for a slightly lower torque, 245 Nm. On paper, the Honda e has nothing to envy to its future competitors.

The company also boasts the turning radius of its model, set at 4.3 meters. Consequence: the vehicle would be "  extremely maneuverable in narrow streets  ". A good point with regard to its final use, namely in town, exclusively. It will also be expected a center of gravity located at 50 cm from the ground, thanks to the low position of the battery, itself nestled under the floor of the vehicle.

2025: 100% electric lens

Also added is the Single Pedal Control, which "  allows the driver to accelerate and decelerate by means of the only accelerator pedal  ". And Honda to specify this feature found on most electric: "  By pressing the accelerator pedal, the car gains speed, but releasing it, regenerative braking is automatically activated and slows the vehicle  ".

Finally, the integration of a "Sport Mode" should improve its performance by means of faster acceleration. Honda takes the opportunity to recall its objectives in the short term: by 2025, 100% of the models sold on the Old Continent will be equipped with an electric motor.
