According to the European Environment Agency, CO2 emissions from new passenger cars have further increased in 2018. The 2020/2021 CO2 target for car manufacturers seems difficult to reach, with fines at stake.

The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association calls on the Member States of the European Union to invest more in charging stations for electric vehicles, to encourage consumers to turn to these alternatives. In France, the government is proposing € 1,800 of benefits-in-kind allowance for employees traveling by electric car.

Correlation between sales of diesel/gasoline vehicles and CO2 emissions

For the second consecutive year, the European Environment Agency announces an increase in CO2 emissions of new cars, 1.6% compared to 2017. Also, sales of gasoline cars increase by 8.5 million in 2017, compared with 7.6 million in 2017. While sales of diesel vehicles are declining: 5.4 million cars in 2018, a decrease of 1.2 million compared to 2017.

And unfortunately, less than 302 000 refillable cars were sold in 2018There is a correlation between sales of gasoline/diesel vehicles and CO2 emissions. Indeed, petrol cars emit more carbon dioxide than equivalent diesel vehicles. These figures are worrying automakers who fear fines for failing to meet the 2020/2021 CO2 target.
