Thanks Switch Lite: Nintendo Delivers Strong Financial Results in Q3

Nintendo is in a resplendent form. Driven by its Switch Lite we had tested a few weeks ago and sales of games in good shape, the group has just communicated excellent results.

Nintendo has released its financial results for the third quarter of 2019 (the second of its fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2019, and ends on March 31, 2020). The Japanese manufacturer and publisher present very solid performances.

Switch Lite Boosts Sales

It achieved a turnover of 2,241 billion euros over the period, an increase of 23% compared to last year. Above all, Big N explodes its operating profits: 551 million euros from July to September, an increase of 116%.

Impressive figures can be explained by the sale of consoles as well as the sale of games. Nintendo has sold 4.97 million consoles over the three months, including 4.8 million devices from the Switch family. This is a 30% gain over the same period in 2018. Sales were boosted by the release of Switch Lite, the group's new 100% portable console. 1.95 million Switch Lite were sold by September 30, 2019. The Switch is now well ahead of the PS4, which has just become the second most sold console in the world behind the PS2.

Mario and Zelda still card as much

Of course, when you buy a Switch, it's to play Nintendo exclusives. Zelda: Link's Awakening sold 3.13 million copies in the third quarter of 2019, which is already one of the biggest hits on the console. For its part, Fire Emblem Three Houses reached 2.29 million. The big performance also from Super Mario Maker 2, which exceeds 1.5 million sales.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, family game par excellence, continues to sell like hotcakes with more than one million units sold over the period. It consolidates its first position of the most sold Switch games. The podium is completed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Mario Odyssey.
