Abandoned for a few years, the range of SoC Qualcomm 2XX will accommodate a new chip. Dubbed Qualcomm 215, the latter is also destined for entry-level ... the entry-level.
Qualcomm is dusting its range of SoC for smartphones at low prices. The manufacturer announced this week the Qualcomm 215, a chip that trades in particular ARM Cortex A-7 dual-core architecture of its ancestors (then named Snapdragon 200, 210 and 212), for a Cortex-53 quad-core architecture.
When Qualcomm doubles the bet for smartphones "budgets"
" By offering a 64-bit processor and a Dual-ISPs device ( capable of supporting two photo sensors with optical zoom and depth detection, ed.), The Qualcomm 215 mobile platform is an important milestone for the expansion of the mobile industry. as a whole, "says Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management at Qualcomm. " We are raising the standard for the mass market and enabling experiences that have never been possible before in our 2XX range ."
In fact, the Qualcomm 215 sports four cores Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.3 GHz. As recalled Edwin, it is reminiscent of the Snapdragon 410 from a technical point of view, with the support of a 13MP camera and video capture in Full HD. The Qualcomm 215 will also allow (very) content-rich smartphones to offer HD + 18: 9 screens, for a maximum definition of 1,560 by 720 pixels (instead of a non-HD tile so far).
Towards better connectivity
The new Qualcomm entry-level chip also features a Hexagon DSP and supports Dual SIM systems, dual VoLTE, and NFC payment technologies.
Qualcomm finally announces an Adreno 308 GPU part and a Snapdragon X5 LTE modem for its Qualcomm 215. However, this modem was already available on the Snapdragon 212. It allows downstream speeds of 150 Mbps and amounts of 50 Mbps. Quick Charge 1.0 technology is also supported.
The Qualcomm 215 is expected in the second half of this year 2019, without further details. It could help to give new momentum smartphones offered around 100 euros. A highly valued segment of the mobile market, especially in developing countries.
