After the Model 3, Model S and Model X, the boss of Tesla, in the person of Elon Musk, has lifted the veil on the future SUV that will complement the offer of the Californian manufacturer: Model Y, presented in the night from March 14 to 15, 2019. More than a year from its release, what do we know exactly about it?
It was necessary to get up early on the night of March 14 to 15, 2019 to watch the presentation conference of Model Y, the latest electric vehicle of the American company Tesla. Expected for autumn 2020, the first copies of the SUVcompact can already be pre-ordered. Beware, however: some features announced last March have since evolved if we refer to the configurator of the group. An opportunity to remake a comprehensive update on the Model Y.
Exterior design
The finest observers did not miss to notice an air of Model 3 at the moment when Elon Musk officially revealed his new product. Slightly more bulging and elevated, the Model Y belongs more to the compact SUV category than its first named cousin. But this model is especially 10% larger, as indicated by the contractor.
The dimensions of the Model Y seem indeed a bit bigger, although no official data has been published on this subject. The resemblance to the flagship vehicle of the brand is blatant anyway, but the best habitability of the Y could tilt the scales on his side. Note also the presence of a panoramic glass roof.
Interior design
To mention above the livability of the Model Y was not insignificant since this component could play a key role in the final purchase of a user. An optional third-row gives Tesla customers the opportunity to seat up to seven adult passengers in the vehicle. Convenient, for large families. As standard, the black interior color is accompanied by another black and white color, at a price of 1 050 euros.
In addition to this significant advantage, the Model Y takes all the aesthetic codes of the brand, namely a very clean and minimalist interior, characterized by a large horizontal screen of 15 inches, placed between the driver and the front passenger. All there is more classic for a Tesla.
Performance and autonomy
Has the multinational turned upside down the technical sheet of its product in the space of a few months? It seems that yes, in view of the performance gaps between figures released last March and those now presented by the official website. The range and speed of acceleration of the four versions (Standard, Large Autonomy, Dual Motor Integral Transmission, and Performance ) differ, in the good and in the bad sense.
Standard
- Top speed: 193 km / h
- Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds (against 5.9 seconds in March)
- Autonomy: 390 kilometers (against 370 kilometers in March)
- Rims: 18 or 19 inches
High autonomy (two-wheel drive)
- Top speed: 209 km / h
- Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.8 seconds (against 5.5 seconds in March)
- Autonomy: 540 kilometers (against 480 kilometers in March)
- Rims: 18 or 19 inches
High autonomy (four-wheel drive)
- Top speed: 217 km / h
- Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds (against 4.8 seconds in March)
- Autonomy: 505 kilometers (against 450 kilometers in March)
- Rims: 18 or 19 inches
Performance
- Top speed: 241 km / h
- Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds (against 3.5 seconds in March)
- Autonomy: 480 kilometers (against 450 kilometers in March)
- Rims: Performance 20 inches
The Tesla official site also focuses on the cooldown: 15 minutes to find 270 kilometers, thanks, obviously, to one of the brand's Supercharger.
Standalone systems and features
Like its counterparts, the Model Y will benefit from all the autonomous driving features of the group. Some will only be available as options, others in series, such as automatic emergency braking, collision alert or blind-spot monitoring.
Price and availability
Only communicated in dollars at the time, the prices in euros of each declination, or almost, have since appeared. In addition to the Standard version, unavailable on the configurator car marketed in the spring of 2021 for $ 39,000, the Grande Autonomie (two-wheel drive) will snatch 58,000 euros, against 62,000 and 70,000 euros respectively for the Great Autonomy ( four-wheel drive) and Performance.
The last three models launched will land on the market in the course of the autumn of 2020. Five colors make up the offer, which are: plain black (standard), night gray metallic (1 600 euros), ultramarine metallic blue (1600 euros), multilayered pearl white (2,100 euros), multilayered red (2,600 euros).
