Milan will be equipped with one of the largest electric bus fleets in the world

The Polish company Solaris Bus & Coach recently communicated on an agreement with the city of Milan, Italy. A contract that involves the sale of 250 electric buses.

The largest fleet of electric buses in Europe

It's official, by 2030, Milan plans to get rid of all its diesel buses for the benefit of electric buses. This is Solaris, a Polish company, which won the contract and thus provide the city 250 vehicles by that date.

The agreement was reached with the public company ATM Milano, which will receive from 2020 the first delivery of 40 units. Remember, however, that the city already has 25 electric buses that had already been provided by Solaris in 2014. Milan will be the city of Europe the most provided in transport "  zero emission  ".

What is the agreement about?

The € 192 million contracts between ATM Milano and Solaris evokes a delivery in 2020 of 40 Urbino 12 electric buses. These have a capacity of 82 passengers, including 26 seats, and measure, as their name suggests, 12 meters long. The version chosen by the ATM Milano will have two electric motors of 110 kW present on the axles and, on the side of the batteries, one simply knows that the capacity could exceed 240 kWh.

In addition to technology and ecology, ATM Milano also focuses on passenger comfort, as explained in the Solaris release: " Spacious and comfortable interiors will feature state-of-the-art equipment, including USB charging ports, a passenger information system and a video surveillance device, which will increase comfort and safety. "

This contract is today the largest ever recorded on the European continent for the development of electric buses in the city. It could, however, be overtaken by Paris, which had announced to equip about 800 electric buses with Heuliez Bus, Bolloré, and Alstom.
