On the ground to finalize its new alternative OS to Android before the release of its next smartphones, Huawei has just filed the brand "Harmony" in Europe.
The filing of a trademark with the European Intellectual Property Office clearly mentions the term "operating system" concerning this mysterious Harmony.
Harmony, a cross-platform OS
Since the United States issued strong sanctions against Chinese Huawei, we know that the latter is developing an alternative operating system to Android, able to power all of its devices (smartphones, tablets, computers, etc.).
This is in any case what the brand currently being verified by the European Office strongly suggests. On the description, it reads " Downloadable Operating System Programs; Registered operating system programs; Mobile operating systems; Computer operating systems; Operational Programs and Computer Downloadable Operating Systems.
The one we initially thought of as HongMeng OS has also turned out to be an operating system for the Internet of Things. This IP deposit is the first reliable information on the name of the future OS that will soon replace Android on smartphones (and other devices so ...) of Huawei.
Huawei will have a lot to do to convince
Historically, reminds The Next Web, smartphones embedding an alternative OS to Android have often broken their teeth. Firefox OS, Ubuntu Touch, Windows Phone and many more.
As a reminder, Android runs a little less than 80% of smartphones in the world. It goes without saying that users have their habits and can switch from one phone to another without losing their marks.
To convince, Huawei will have to ensure that the transition will be smooth and that its future users will be able to find the applications they like on Android. To avoid any eventuality, the Chinese giant has recently announced that it is ready to fully refund users the price of their smartphone if "major" applications were to be unavailable on their terminals.
