Design, performance, autonomy: everything we know about the Skoda VISION iV electric

Inducted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019, the Skoda VISION iV represents the future of the Czech brand in the electrical sector. Overview.

The least we can say is that the Skoda VISION iV made an impact at the Geneva Motor Show last March. Star of the booth of the Czech brand, the vehicle detonated among the other models by its yellow color as daring as envy. His style has also made its effect, taking over the lines of an electric sports coupe SUV, as described by the company.

Considered "  Skoda's next step towards mobility ", the company says, VISION iV, designed from the SEM platform of Volkswagen (the parent company), has serious assets to appeal to the general public. Between an assertive design and performance more than decent, this four-wheel could be a place of choice on the niche of the electric. Provided, however, to offer a reasonable price to consumers.

Exterior design

4.66 meters long, 1.92 meters wide and 1.61 meters high, the Skoda VISION iV stands out on several points. Starting with its front light signature, characterized by a border crossing the grille, then connecting the headlights Matrix LEDs. At the back, this band is more discreetly embedded in the shield, while some of the lights overflowing the chest.

Another striking visual element is the presence of retro-cameras in place of conventional mirrors. Components that are also found, for example, on the Honda e. Add to that flush door handles, nested in the doors of the vehicle. Overall, this zero-emission car has a sporty silhouette and an aggressive front, pleasing to the eye.

Interior design

The interior of the VISION iV is both high-tech and luxurious: as the Turbo
notes, Bohemian crystal and wood from work invite on board to give a look both pompous and cozy. It also shows a minimalist side, marked by the absence of button . The digital instrumentation handset, placed in front of the driver, acts as a dashboard.

A large touch screen, powered by an infotainment system, comes between the driver and front passenger, overlooking a storage space that can accommodate up to two smartphones, which are recharged with a wireless charger. Overall, the interior of the product is successful.

Power and autonomy

Equipped with a dual electric motor (one on the front axle, the other on the rear axle), the Skoda VISION iV combines the power of 225 kW or 306 horsepower. What gives him a top speed of 180 km /h, and shoot down the 0 to 100 km / h in the space of 5.9 seconds. Exercise 80 to 120 km / h is done in less than four seconds. In short: it takes about ten seconds to reach the maximum speed allowed on the highway.

Its 83 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery also gives it a very honorable range of 500 kilometers, according to the WLTP certification cycle. Thanks to a fast charge, 80% of its capacity can be found in the space of 30 minutes. No other reference time - with the wall sockets, for example - was however communicated by the mark.

Features and systems

This is one of the main marketing arguments put forward by the group: the ability of the VISION iV to offer level three autonomy. In other words, the VISION iV can perform certain maneuvers without human intervention in very specific situations, such as on the motorway, car parks or in traffic jams. Another feature proposed: use your smartphone as a digital key.

The system can also monitor the driver's heart rate, and stop the car itself if there is a problem. Always on the side of safety, the vehicle is able to "  detect the decline of the concentration of the driver by monitoring the movement of his eyes  ". Finally, Skoda evokes a 5G connection, although this technology is not yet deployed in Europe.

Availability and prices

The fee structure of the Skoda VISION iV is still a mystery. But it will require flexibility to customers to hope to enter a market more occupied by major players in the automotive sector. In fact, a vehicle that is too expensive could put off potential customers. In any case, it will be necessary to wait until 2020 to start mass production.
