The two brothers are accused of phishing and, more specifically, of stealing thousands of Bitcoins.
Lahav 433, the Israeli FBI, arrested the two men involved in a Bitcoins robbery worth tens of millions of dollars.
The duo created fraudulent sites and trapped unsuspecting traders
In 2016, the two brothers, Assaf and Eli Gigi, respectively aged 21 and 31, created fraudulent websites allowing them to trick traders. Their websites imitated crypto-currency exchanges and online portfolios. The two brothers then communicated with the traders, on forums or via the Telegram application.
When investors and crypto-currency users entered their personal keys on fake sites and fraudulent applications, thieves only had to use their digital wallets.
In addition to thousands of bitcoins stolen in this way, the two brothers are involved in another robbery, this time on the Bitfinex cryptocurrency trading platform, in 2016. The loot would amount to 61 million dollars in total.
Two luxury cars and a wallet of crypto-currencies seized
The Gigi brothers probably thought they would go unnoticed: they waited three years before moving bitcoins stolen from Bitfinex.
When the raid took place in the oldest, two luxury cars and a wallet of cryptocurrencies were found. Eli Gigi also said he was ready to cooperate with the police: " I was wrong, I came from a bad background. I am a good boy and I am sorry. I am ready to cooperate.
The 30-year-old was reportedly trained by the Israel Defense Forces in web development and hacking.
