New launch for Ariane 5: two telecommunication satellites will be put into orbit

From 21:30 tomorrow, follow the launch of Ariane 5: the rocket must leave Kourou to put into orbit two telecommunications satellites.

From takeoff to detachment of the satellites, the new Ariane 5 mission should last a little over half an hour.

Third mission of the year for the European launcher

The launch of the Ariane 5 rocket is scheduled for tomorrow, between 15:30 and 17:51 USA time. This is the third mission of the year for the launcher of the European Space Agency; it will take place in Kourou, from the Guiana Space Center.

The mission is to drop the Intelsat 39 and EDRS-C satellites into orbit. The first, owned by Intelsat, will replace a satellite launched in 2001, the 61 st Intelsat satellite that Arianespace has been carrying since 1983.

In total, the Intelsat satellite will have a mass of 6,600 kilos, at launch. EDRS-C for its part has a mass of 3 185 kilos.

The latter will be the second node of the Spatial Data Highway, the project of the European Space Agency and Airbus.

Once correctly positioned, EDRS-C will be able to connect, by laser, to satellites in low orbit to transfer data. This information can be shared by the satellite, even at a distance of 45,000 km.

The first shot since the failure of Vega in July

On July 10, a few minutes after the takeoff of the light European rocket, an anomaly had declared itself. Ariane 5 is preparing to make the first takeoff since this incident.

The anomaly detected on Vega had led to the end of the mission. The French space agency CNES had declared, following the incident, to have followed the launcher until its fallout and before sending the destruction order.

The objective of the rocket was to put into orbit an Earth observation satellite for the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates.

Hopefully, everything will be fine this time, for Ariane 5. As a reminder, the takeoff will take place tomorrow between 15:30 and 17:50USA hours. It will be possible to follow the launch from the ArianespaceYouTube channel :
