Steam Labs unveils new batch of tests for users

The valve opens a new series of tests via Steam Labs. Users can experience three potential future Steam features on a new page of the application's website. Thus, one can discover game micro bags, an interactive recommendation system, and an automatic game presentation bot.

Steam continues its plan for 2019 to respond to the onslaught of the Epic Game Store, such as the Borderlands 3 exclusive.

Three experiments to test for Steam users

For the first time, Valve opens the Steam Labs' experiences to the general public. Thus, the website offers three new experiences to users of the platform. They are expected to share their feedback with the developers who created these ephemeral experiences via the Steam Labs newsgroup

The first experience available is purely visual. Entitled "  micro-trailers" This is a trailer-style presentation, as the name suggests, of six seconds, played in a loop. Thus, the visitor can learn more about a game without having to open the page of the game. Four types of micro-trailers are being tested.

First of all, the "  classic micro-trailers  ": you just have to hover over the thumbnail of a game to start the trailer. Then there is the "Full Row Playback", which launches the three-game trailers at the same time when the mouse is on the block.

The "Scroll Play" mode is similar, except that the trailer triggers the scroll on the page. Finally, "Video Quartets" are blocks of four simultaneous videos for a single game.

Steam relies on artificial intelligence

The other two experiments are based on artificial intelligence. Thus, the "  interactive recommendation system  " is, as its name implies, a more advanced recommendation system. Based on machine learning, it takes into account your Steam library and the time spent on each game owned. Then simply filter the results proposed by popularity (niche games or popular games) and refine by release date and Steam tag. The last experience is the '  automatic presentation

". This is a great project that Valve reveals to us the beginnings. The first video of this format presents video games, accompanied by a voiceover. This is a human, however, the script was generated by an AI from texts available on the store Steam. And eventually, a bot could support writing and voiceover presentation videos!

"  The computer-generated voice we used was not very natural, so we put it back a bit later. But we are working on it!  ".
