A private lunar mission funded by Audi and Vodafone will explore the remains of Apollo 17

By 2021 will fly Sanctuary, the first private lunar mission dedicated to archeology. Funded by Audi and Vodafone, the ALINA probe will alienate in the Taurus Littrow region to explore the remains of Apollo 17. It will leave behind a trace of our memories for millions of years.

While it is possible to relive "live" all the stages of the Apollo 11 moon landing, 50 years ago, the Sanctuary project will focus on exploring the last steps of Man on the Moon.

Mission to explore the remains of Apollo 17

This Saturday, July 20, 2019, will be the 50 th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission Now the last steps of mankind on the moon took place three years later, in 1972, Apollo 17. Also, the first private space exploration mission, funded by Audi and Vodafone, will be dedicated to the exploration of these remains, left by the last American astronauts to have walked the lunar ground.

To do this, a team of German engineers designed the ALINA probe, which will depart in 2021 to the Sea of Serenity. It will be more specific to the south, in the Taurus Littrow area, near the Apollo 17 site.

During the 12 days of this space mission dedicated to archeology (almost a lunar day), two rovers will be responsible for exploring the remains of this last mission. In the same way, the Sanctuary project will be part of the inert vestiges left on the Moon, destined for our descendants.

The Sanctuary project, a memory mission

A cube of about ten centimeters stops, for less than 700 grams, will be fixed on the flanks of the ALINA probe. It will contain up to 17 sapphire discs, 9 centimeters in diameter, which will bear the testimony of our time, for millions of years.

Each disc will be composed of 2 billion pixels black and white, 500 times finer than a hair. Overall, the project will present the entire genome of a man, and that of a woman. But also who we are the state of our scientific knowledge and artistic works, such as illustrations and music.

If near the Earth, this cube will likely be discovered by our descendants rather than extraterrestrials. So, they could have a clearer vision of who we are, what we know and how we feel.
